Terms of use

The licence and the ground rules for using Longnote: your data is yours, and Longnote is a self-tracking tool, not a medical service.

The short version

Longnote is licensed to you under Apple’s standard app licence. Your data is yours. Longnote is a self-tracking tool, not a medical service; it does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Your statutory rights as a consumer are never limited by these terms.

Licence

Longnote is distributed through the Apple App Store and licensed, not sold, to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA), which applies between you and the developer named in the Impressum. The terms below supplement that licence. If they conflict with it, the standard EULA applies.

Supplemental terms

Personal use. Longnote is for your personal, non-commercial use as a private health record, for yourself or for family members whose record you keep.

Not medical advice. Longnote does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and is not a medical device. Insights describe patterns observed in your own entries: associations, not causes. They can be incomplete, coincidental or wrong, and the app says how sure it is for exactly that reason. Weather forecasts and pressure alerts are about the weather, not about your body. Do not delay or change care because of something the app showed you; talk to a clinician about health decisions.

Your content stays yours. Everything you record belongs to you. It is stored on your iPhone, we never receive it, and you grant us no rights to it. What the app does send, and to whom, is described in the privacy policy.

Free and Pro. Logging, your full history, CSV export, Apple Health and local encrypted backup are free. Longnote Pro adds the features listed on the Pro page in the app. Downgrading never removes data you recorded; Pro features you no longer have simply pause until you renew.

Purchases. Longnote Pro is sold through Apple as a monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase; the App Store shows your local price before you buy. The yearly subscription may start with a free trial; the App Store shows it before you buy, and if you cancel before the trial ends nothing is charged. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your Apple Account’s subscription settings, at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Buying Lifetime does not cancel a running subscription; cancel that separately. Refunds are handled by Apple.

Keep your own copies. We work hard on reliability, including backups and export, but software can fail and phones get lost. You are responsible for keeping copies of data you cannot afford to lose; the app makes this easy (see Support). Keep your backup passcode safe: we cannot recover it.

Liability. We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act. For slight negligence we are liable only for breach of an essential obligation, limited to the damage typical and foreseeable for this kind of app. Otherwise our liability is excluded to the extent the law allows. Your statutory warranty rights are not affected.

Ending things. You can stop using Longnote at any time. Deleting the app removes its data from your iPhone; delete any backup files you made in Files or iCloud Drive. Two copies are not touched by deleting the app: symptoms you chose to save to Apple Health stay there until you delete them in the Health app, and your iPhone’s own device backup (iCloud Backup or a computer) keeps the app’s data until that backup is replaced or deleted.

Changes. If these supplemental terms change in a way that matters, we update the date at the top and say so in the app’s release notes.

Governing law. These supplemental terms are governed by German law. If you are a consumer living in another country, the mandatory consumer protection rules of that country still apply.
